An unnamed woman, portrayed by Beth Riesgraf, is a minor character in the third season of Stranger Things and was the mother of Billy Hargrove.

History

Background

Billy's mother lived in California with her son Billy and her husband Neil Hargrove. She had a friend named Wendy. She loved Billy and supported his surfing hobby, but Neil's accusations of her cheating on him and physical abuse towards her eventually drove her to abandon her son in order to escape. Billy tried to get his mother to come home, but not to avail. His mother's departure allowed Neil to gain full custody of Billy and abuse him even further, turning him into a cruel violent bully.

1985

By 1985, the Hargroves and the Mayfields had moved to Hawkins, Indiana. There, Billy was possessed by an entity from another dimension. To break him out of this possession, a girl named Eleven reminded Billy of his mother, providing a description of her and a day when Billy and his mother were at the beach. Soon afterwards, Billy was killed by the proxy body of the entity.

Appearance

She has shining blue eyes and long, wavy blonde hair. At the beach, she wore a long white flowing dress with a blue and red flower, sparkly pink nail polish, hoop earrings, a butterfly necklace, yellow sandals, and a hat with a blue ribbon.

Personality

Billy's mother was much kinder and loving to Billy than Neil was. She seemed to enjoy spending time with her son on the beach away from Neil. When she had enough of Neil's abuse, she divorced him, leaving Billy to be raised by his father. She was not a pushover, as she struck Neil over the head when he cornered her spewing presumably false accusations.
