History
Background
Diane was married to Jim Hopper for seven years. They had a daughter together named Sarah. One day while the three were at a park, Sarah began hyperventilating. Jim attempted to calm her down, but ultimately, she had to be taken to a hospital.
Sarah was diagnosed with cancer and treated with chemotherapy. Eventually, Sarah began to die, and Diane watched as doctors attempted to revive her daughter to no avail.
After the death of her child, Diane and Jim divorced. She later married a man named Bill and had a second child with him.
Season One
Diane received a phone call from Jim in November 1983. He told her that he did not regret any of the seven years he spent with her, even after everything that happened. Diane asked if he had been drinking, and he answered "No." Her baby started crying, and Jim said that he had been drinking, told her to take care of herself, and say hi to Bill, then promptly hung up on her. She tried to call him back, but he did not answer.[1]
