The Hawkins Police Department is the local police department of Hawkins, Indiana. Their police station was located just off Hawkins' town square.[1]

History[]

1959[]

Early on March 15, 1959, the then-deputy John Snow found Victor Creel wandering aimlessly along the side of Highway 49, south of Hawkins. Snow interrupted Creel and discovered the bodies of his wife and children upon returning him home, and promptly arrested him.[2]

1979 - 1983[]

Former NYPD officer Jim Hopper started working for the Hawkins PD in 1979. At an unknown point in time, Hopper became Chief of Police. He has stated the worst thing to happen during his employment was "when an owl attacked Eleanor Gillespie's head because he thought it was a nest."[3]

1983[]

When Joyce Byers's son Will went missing, Hopper and officers Phil Callahan and Calvin Powell organized a search party to look for him. Eventually, Will was found in another dimension by Joyce and Hopper.

1984[]

Murray Bauman visited the Hawkins PD with a theory about a Russian girl in Hawkins, as well as a future Russian invasion, but was ignored and mocked by Hopper, Callahan and Powell. Later, both Merrill Wright and Eugene McCorkle accused each other of destroying each others' crops. Hopper, Callahan and Powell investigated Merrill's pumpkin patch. Later, Hopper discovered a tunnel system killing the plants. Meanwhile, Joyce repeatedly called the PD to contact Hopper about Will's abnormal behavior, much to the secretary Flo's annoyance.

1985[]

Hopper was sent to Hawkins' Town Hall to calm a protest against Mayor Larry Kline, and under Kline's orders, he was forced to arrest some of the townspeople. Later, Hopper investigated the Russian lab under Starcourt Mall with Joyce and Murray. Hopper vanished after a Russian key exploded in their underground base. Hopper was assumed to have been killed by the 'mallfire' that broke out in Starcourt Mall. Following Hopper's supposed death, Powell was promoted to Chief of Police.

1986[]

Officer Glenn Daniels started working at the PD during or before March 1986. Powell, Callahan and Daniels investigated a string of murders, while trying to manage the erratic behavior of Hawkins High Tigers leader Jason Carver, who led the town to believe Eddie Munson and his Hellfire Club were the murderers. Eddie did later on become the prime suspect. After the murders, a 'earthquake' tore through Hawkins, inflicting major damage to the downtown area.
