Netflix Incorporated, commonly known as Netflix and stylized as NETFLIX, is an American entertainment company founded on August 29, 1997. It is a streaming service on the Internet used to stream television shows and movies, some of which are Netflix originals, in most countries.
In January 2016, Netflix reported that they would be blocking virtual private networks (VPN) and proxies. In October 2016, Netflix reported over 86 million subscribers worldwide, including more than 47 million in the United States.
Netflix is mainly used to stream television shows and movies. However, there are some shows and movies not available on their website but available for rent on a disc to watch on a DVD player.
Netflix is available worldwide with the exception of Mainland China, Crimea, North Korea, and Syria. It is available in Saudi Arabia, but there is law that states that people are not allowed to watch movies and television shows in there.
Within the first 24 hours of the Duffer Brothers' pitch of Stranger Things, Netflix bought the show to make it a Netflix original television series. The Duffer Brothers still own most of the rights to the show.
On July 15, 2016, Netflix released the first season of Stranger Things to be available for streaming on computers, tablets, smartphones, and other devices. The season has received critical and audience approval, scoring a fresh rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On August 31, 2016, the Duffer Brothers confirmed that they had renewed Stranger Things for a nine-episode second season on Netflix, which was released on October 27, 2017. The season has also received widespread acclaim and audience approval with a score of fresh rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On December 1, 2017, Netflix provided a confirmation for the renewal of Stranger Things for an eight-episode third season, which began its production on April, 2018. However, no release date has yet been revealed.
